The Importance of Communicating with your Child
Posted by CWC on May 28th, 2007Do you ever sit back in amazement as you witness the remarkable language growth that occurs from birth through your child’s early years?
My experience has shown me that children learn to use language over time by watching, listening to, and conversing with other people. The purpose of communicating is very important.
For example, it is through communicating that children first learn to talk so they can establish relationships with their family and communicate their needs and desires to others.
Here are a few reasons why communicating with your child is important:
- Your child can learn how to develop social skills
- Your child can learn how to stay on topic
- Your child can learn how to wait until the speaker is finished before responding
One thing you should keep in mind is the preschool stage and kindergarten years helps to develop your child’s language and literacy skills. Consequently, this would be an excellent time to begin holding regular conversations with your child.
