Conversation with Children

For years, I’ve had many conversations with my children. Each time I learned something about myself and them. I often wondered, “Are other parents having the same conversations?”

In 2005, I attempted to come up with an idea related to children and parents but could not think of anything. One site caught my attention but I could never put the pieces together.

While talking with my good friend Brandon, and motivated by my friend Lisa, I came up with the current domain name (www.conversationswithchildren.com) at the beginning of June 2006!

Still, I didn’t fully understand what I would do with it! I knew there would be a conversation and I did see a movie playing in my mind with a mother and child having a conversation but I could not hear the words. Yes, it was like a silent movie.

Then one day on the way to church, I heard the words to that movie playing in my mind. I quickly pulled out my notebook and started writing. Luckily, I took shorthand over 15-years ago so, I didn’t lose anything.

Once again, I did not know what to do with this conversation. By now it was the beginning of July 2006!

There were many good things happening in my life. I had plans to go to Atlanta to meet with Gil Bryan and discuss how we can work together. But that had to be postponed until a later date!

That’s when I said, “Well, you have a whole month…what are you going to do with that time?” I went to sleep and woke up the next day with the idea to showcase the conversation using beautiful pictures and soothing music from Daniel Kobialka!

I quickly contacted my friend Gwen and asked her to assist me with this project. She agreed and today you are able to view that silent movie that was playing in my mind.

There is no way this project would have been completed without the help of God and my friends Lisa Diaz, Brandon Lewis, Debra Gauthier, Gwen Tanner, T. J. Vick, Errol James, Imani Kuwamba, Ed Charkow, Eric Gehler (both Eric and Ed provided me with priceless advice and exposed me to a new way of thinking in 2005), all of my college students over the past eleven years, Phillip Rich, my fellow Warrior members, David Vallieres, the subscribers of the Life Is Simple Insights, Lillian Abreu and her dauthters Gizelliz & Isis, my children (Tyshawn & Shatira) whom I love so much, my mother and Daniel Kobialka who allowed me to use his music! I am truly grateful for all of their help and inspiration!
